The History of Lady Farm
In 1972 Malcolm & Judy Pearce agreed to swap homes with friends and take on the 150 acre farm at Lady Farm, including the cows! They continued milking the cows right outside the house until 1992 when the cattle were moved away and the farm became arable with sheep. This was the golden opportunity to start work on the garden and so Judy, with a vision unique to herself and without formal training, began creating something amazing

The Gardens
Diggers and topsoil were brought in to cover an area of around 12 acres which were then planted
with trees and shrubs. Lawns were sown and Judy used the naturally undulating landscape to create
areas of the garden to their best advantage. The ‘prairie’ and ‘steppe’ style planting
providing an array of striking colours along with the hosta walk, cottage garden and wildflower
meadow
The accidental discovery of spring water triggered the creation of the lakes, dramatic ravine and
waterfall inspiring the innovative planting and plethora of colour we see throughout the seasons
The garden is home to wildlife and many species of birds; our local ornithologist has
recorded 125 to date. The lakes provide a sanctuary for the resident swans.
The Barn
The old calf shed was used to serve teas to visitors for many years. This old and low building became increasingly impractical to use so in 2020 it made way for the splendid new barn that stands on the same site today
Here you can enjoy refreshments and homemade cakes after a stroll around the gardens
The Gardens and Barn can be booked for garden visits, special occasions, celebrations & events
Gardens and Barn Bookings
The Gardens are open by arrangement, bookings can be made by giving us a call on the number provided or sending an email.
The best time to visit the gardens is June to October, not only is the weather best, but this is key to enjoying the detailed, and timed planting that Judy has created.
Garden visit: Groups of 10 people or more, with homeade tea and cakes served in the Barn. Other catering by arrangement.
Barn: Seats up to 60 people, catering options on request.
Ample parking on site for cars and coaches.
